Bones of Memory
Project type
Sculpture
Date
2024
Bones of Memory is a piece that references architecture in a more organic form. The base is a wire structure covered with papier-mâché, with the outer layers wrapped in blueprints of my childhood home, reflecting the idea of memory as something imperfect. Although the blueprints on the outer layer become somewhat recognizable, it takes time to identify them, making it impossible to assemble them and map the space with precision. The organic shape of the sculptures is filled with holes and voids, symbolizing the fragmented nature of memory. The shape of the sculptures can be interpreted as a bony structure, echoing the role of architecture as the skeletal framework of what is to come; the blueprints could be seen as the map of the skeletal structure of a building that will eventually be inhabited by a human body.
Additionally, the sculptures are inverted, referencing power dynamics within architecture and the possibility of reversing them, highlighting the potential for change and the fluidity of power structures.
