Perez Rea is a conceptual artist working primarily installation, as well as, in video, sculpture and sound. Her work explores themes of architecture, the concept of space, and how the manipulation of a familiar environment can influence human behavior. Through research-based projects, Perez Rea investigates the socio-political contexts that influence our interactions with built environments, examining specific sites and their broader cultural and historical contexts. Her installations often involve the creation of architectural boundaries and spatial arrangements designed to prompt reflection on the ways in which our surroundings impact our actions and perceptions. By guiding viewers through predetermined paths within the space, Perez Rea highlights the power dynamics inherent in architectural structures and the ways in which they shape our experiences. A significant aspect of her work involves empathy—examining the intrinsic relationships between sculpture, the human body, and architecture.
